Issue 1237 - Cumberbatch is Back

We end our epic 5 magazine Christmas run with our New Year edition.

Benedict Cumberbatch is back with Sherlock. Even Benedict Cumberbatch raises an eyebrow at the devoted fandom Sherlock attracts. Tracking down the stars when the game’s afoot is detective work in itself.

Analysis - The truth about post-truth (it’s a bit post-truthy). Wordsmith and Philosopher William Watkin lets the facts get in the way of a good story.

Brontëmania - The women who changed the way we watch TV. Happy Valley writer Sally Wainwright has made complex, compelling female characters her own. Now it’s time to take on the Brontës.

Also, we have a list of reasons to be cheerful in 2017 (there are at least three).

WIN! Our competition this week is for tickets to see Still Game Live - 10 pairs of tickets to give away.

And as always, much more.

Please note this is a pre-order and will not be dispatched until week commencing 26th December when this edition goes on general sale.

We will endeavour to get this item to you as soon as possible but please do allow for possible delays over the Christmas period.

The Big Issue

The Big Issue’s own-brand products support the creation of a range of work-based opportunities for disadvantaged people.
The Big Issue has spent over 27 years at the helm of self-help revolution. It all began with the launch of The Big Issue magazine in 1991, which was created to offer homeless and disadvantaged people the opportunity to earn a legitimate income by selling a magazine on the streets. Since then over 200 million copies magazine have been sold by over 100,000 people. Vendors buy the magazine upfront for £1.50 and sell it on to the public for £3.00, and in doing so each runs their own micro-enterprise. In 2005 Big Issue Invest was launched, with the aim of extending The Big Issue’s mission by financing the growth of social enterprises and charities across the UK. To date the organisation has directly invested in over 350 such organisations, and manages or advises on more than £170 million of social funds.
