Issue 1233 - For the Love of Dogs

It's a Big Issue staffie! In a Christmas hat and antlers! And a red tabard!

For many vendors – and countless homeless men and women across the country – their dog is their lifeline. As Christmas approaches, we thought it was high time we gathered some of our vendors together to celebrate the paws-itive power of the pooch...

We also carry a wonderful tale of a vendor who, after losing his dog last year just before Christmas, has now made his way to Lapland to train and look after huskies. Yes, really!

Ronnie O’Sullivan is one of British sport’s most successful and intriguing men. The greatest natural talent snooker has ever produced, his life has been ruptured by crime, depression and addiction. Now he’s written a novel that isn’t far from reality. Steven MacKenzie tries to catch hold of the Rocket.

In the UK 700,000 kids care for adults. We look at a worthwhile project that gives them a break – and a platform to express themselves. An important piece.

We also carry a Letter To My Younger Self from Motown icon Martha Reeves. Includes golden memories of the early days with Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.

What is Hamilton? And why doesn't Donald Trump like it?
We answer these very important questions.

You can also win Hamilton: The Revolution, the ultimate fan-bible and Hamilton Mixtape.

And, as always, much more...

Please note once this edition is no longer on sale with Big Issue vendors (from Monday 5th December) it will be classed as a 'back issue'. All back issues are priced at £4 per copy plus P&P

The Big Issue

The Big Issue’s own-brand products support the creation of a range of work-based opportunities for disadvantaged people.
The Big Issue has spent over 27 years at the helm of self-help revolution. It all began with the launch of The Big Issue magazine in 1991, which was created to offer homeless and disadvantaged people the opportunity to earn a legitimate income by selling a magazine on the streets. Since then over 200 million copies magazine have been sold by over 100,000 people. Vendors buy the magazine upfront for £1.50 and sell it on to the public for £3.00, and in doing so each runs their own micro-enterprise. In 2005 Big Issue Invest was launched, with the aim of extending The Big Issue’s mission by financing the growth of social enterprises and charities across the UK. To date the organisation has directly invested in over 350 such organisations, and manages or advises on more than £170 million of social funds.
