Paul Ryan is a co-founder of Café Art, a social enterprise set up to empower people who have experienced homelessness. Paul, a journalist originally from New Zealand, worked with a legal aid organisation in Vancouver, Canada and developed a similar calendar with them over seven years in from 2005-2012. MyLondon began in 2013 with the support of Fujifilm and The Royal Photographic Society. The goal is to create an exhibition and also an annual calendar, telling people's stories. Vulnerable people who need to earn an income can earn money from their own creativity. Other art projects - exhibitions and art rental - have the same goals: entrepreneurship and photography and sales skills for vulnerable people. MyLondon has inspired several other homeless photo projects including many overseas.
