Mini Stitches is centred around two pillars: community and female empowerment. Designed and made at East London Charity, Stitches in Time, collections are made entirely by women involved in the charity and training programme. Tower Hamlets is an area of high deprivation, with 75% of women in the Bangladeshi community facing unemployment.
Many local women are prevented from finding work due to barriers including English not being their first language and a lack of educational qualifications and employment experience. We are addressing these issues through our work.
We also offer a free training programme to local unemployed women; providing industry standard training in garment manufacture, English classes, one-to-one support, mentoring, I.T. support and work experience. The classes are confidence building, combat social isolation, a chance to practice English and an opportunity to work collaboratively towards common goals; all of which ultimately progress women towards employment.
