Lanka Kade

Established in 1994, Lanka Kade is a family run business based in the heart of the UK specialising in the design, craft and supply of fair trade wooden toys and gifts for children. Lanka Kade is passionate about creating quality, educational toys that inspire children to learn through play. Their distinctive range offers both bright, bold colours and natural wood finishes.

Each purchase of a Lanka Kade product directly supports the Lanka Kade Educational Foundation which provides several disadvantaged rural schools in Sri Lanka with books and daily milk drinks to ensure that all students are better equipped for learning.
Our aim is to reduce poverty through trade. We build long term sustainable trading partnerships that provide stability and protect local skills.
Meet Rujith

Meet Rujith

The first time we met Rujith he had a small wooden lean-to workshop, to the side of his house. He depended on subcontracted orders which were as unreliable as any payments he received. It took several years to build trust before he accepted our offer of an interest free loan to build a workshop. The benefits were immediate; increased capacity and better quality. Bigger profits allowed him to repay the loan faster than ever imagined, with a second loan and workshop soon following.

Rujith listened to our guidance and focused on building a sustainable business which now offers regular employment to many other villagers. We once asked Rujith if working with a fair trade buyer made any difference to him as a producer. His instant reply was "Absolutely! It is like walking from darkness to light. Everything you have given to me, I now give to my workers."
