Designs In Mind - Page 2

Designs in Mind is a working studio, tucked away in Shropshire, where adults living with mental health challenges work together on ambitious, experimental art and design projects. They create bold, contemporary and beautiful homeware, greeting cards and prints that really do have a positive social impact and challenge mental health stigma. Their studio is a hive of activity, there are close to 100 members and they believe that design has the power to positively affect how we feel, not only in how it looks but also through the experience of making.

Open to everyone, together we are finding ways to live life & challenge mental health stigma.

Meet the Makers

My mental illness developed as a result of excess stress and pressure caused through my job. One of the things about mental illness, it can strike at any time even when you least expect it. I was referred to Designs in Mind, who work with people in recovery to create Designs in Mind products. It has been life changing coming here.

Designing for Designs in Mind has been a very exciting project to be part of. It's empowering because we share responsibility for the designs and as the process unfolds you can see the final piece coming together, it exceeds your expectations. The process is challenging, it's hard to imagine the finished product- but you have to let that go. The process is collaborative, everyone has different ideas and so things change and develop with input. There is a lot of decision making and it feels great when you get to that moment when everything clicks in to place and it works.
