Welcome to the legendary Big Issue Christmas special.

This bumper edition is full of joy, fun and plenty of inspiration. We explore the cost-of-living crisis and war in Ukraine but manage to find hope in even the bleakest times.

Inside

- A review of the biggest Big Issue stories of the year, from DIY solutions to the housing crisis to Prince William selling the magazine.
- Former PM Gordon Brown sets out how the government has to help the most vulnerable
- As the animated version of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is set to be the star in this year’s Christmas TV schedules, we speak to its creator Charlie Mackesy
- We visit a bomb shelter in Kharkiv to find out what it’s like celebrating Christmas in unimaginably difficult circumstances
- Beckham-bothering comedian Joe Lycett explains how exactly we ended up in the mess we find ourselves in
- We hear from breakthrough band of the year Wet Leg who tell us how they plan to keep using their platform to talk about the big issues important to them
- DJ and presenter Roman Kemp remembers his godfather and great friend of The Big Issue, George Michael
- Nick Cave is offering readers an exclusive bunch of goodies!

We crown our books of the year and famous faces including Greg James, Sam Ryder, Brian May, Damian Lewis, Eddie Redmayne, Jodie Whittaker, Vicky McClure and Letitia Wright share their cultural highlights of 2022.

The Big Issue

The Big Issue's own-brand products support the creation of a range of work-based opportunities for disadvantaged people.
Big Issue has spent over 30 years at the helm of self-help revolution. It all began with the launch of The Big Issue magazine in 1991, which was created to offer homeless and disadvantaged people the opportunity to earn a legitimate income by selling a magazine on the streets. Since then over 200 million copies magazine have been sold by over 100,000 people. Vendors buy the magazine upfront for £1.75 and sell it on to the public for £4.00, and in doing so each runs their own micro-enterprise. In 2005 Big Issue Invest was launched, with the aim of extending The Big Issue's mission by financing the growth of social enterprises and charities across the UK. To date the organisation has directly invested in over 350 such organisations, and manages or advises on more than £170 million of social funds.
